What is an ultrasound-guided injection?
Ultrasound-guided injection involves injecting an anti-inflammatory drug into joints, bursae or tendons to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. The radiologist uses an ultrasound machine as a guide and to see the injection site clearly.
Ultrasound-guided injections can effectively treat many joint problems using the following techniques:
- Cortisone injection
- Viscosupplement injection
- Prolotherapy
- Calcium lavage
- Nerve block
Prolotherapy
Prolotherapy, also known as hyperosmolar dextrose injection, involves injecting a sugar water solution (dextrose) into joints, ligaments or tendons.
This method is increasingly used to treat musculoskeletal and chronic pain. As a natural solution with few side effects, dextrose promotes tissue repair, stabilizes joints and helps prevent recurrent injuries.
Calcific lavage
The treatment with calcium washing makes it possible to suck up the calcium deposits in order to prevent bursitis and tendinitis. This reaction is beneficial and helps relieve pain.
Preparation
No preparation is required before an ultrasound-guided injection.
Book an appointment
Make sure you have your doctor’s prescription on hand to book an appointment for an infiltration.
Please note that appointments for prolotherapy are booked by telephone only.
