At Medvue, pediatric ultrasounds are performed under the care of a team of specialized independent technicians and radiologists, led by Dr. Daniel-Alexandre Bisson.
Having taken further training in pediatric imaging at the University of Toronto, Dr. Bisson makes sure that every child has a safe, comfortable exam, as do the members of his team.
Pediatric ultrasound is available at the Medvue clinics in Montreal, Laval and Brossard.
What is pediatric ultrasound?
Pediatric ultrasound is a medical imaging exam which uses no radiation and is indicated for newborns, children and teenagers. It uses sound waves to obtain precise images of internal organs without the use of x-rays, making it completely safe and pain-free.
Why perform a pediatric ultrasound?
This exam is prescribed by a doctor to explore certain organs, such as the liver, kidneys, bladder, spleen, and gallbladder. Ultrasound can help diagnose or monitor many health problems, such as congenital malformations, infections or growth abnormalities.
Types of pediatric ultrasounds available at Medvue:
- Abdominal ultrasound
- Pelvic ultrasound
- Abdominopelvic ultrasound
- Thyroid ultrasound
- Testicular ultrasound
- Surface ultrasound
- Medullary ultrasound
What happens at a pediatric ultrasound?
The ultrasound is performed by an imaging professional in a calm, reassuring setting. The child usually has a parent with them.
Gel is applied, then a probe is moved over the area to be examined. The probe generates ultrasound waves which reflect off the organs, creating images of the area to be examined.
An essential tool for children’s health
Pediatric ultrasound helps make a precise diagnosis or provide medical follow-up suited for every age. Its reliability and safety make it the preferred method for assessing children’s health from birth.
