What is an abdominal MRI?

Abdominal MRIs are used to assess the organs of the upper abdomen: the liver, small intestine, colon, pancreas, spleen and kidneys.

Often, abdominal MRI requires an injection of gadolinium. This is done by means of a catheter that a technologist installs in a vein.

Detail about preparation

For an abdominal MRI, you must be fasting (no liquids or solids) for at least six hours before the exam.

Book an appointment

Make sure you have your doctor’s prescription on hand to book an appointment for a magnetic resonance imaging scan (MRI).
